J-M Sélèque “Solessence” Extra Brut Champagne, featuring an elegant minimalist label with gold and white detailing, set against the wine’s pale golden hue—symbolizing the refined, terroir-driven craftsmanship of this grower Champagne from Pierry, Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, Champagne, France
WINE STORY

J-M Sélèque is a third-generation grower-producer based in Pierry, just south of Épernay, at the heart of Champagne’s Côteaux Sud d’Épernay. Founded in the 1960s by Henri Sélèque and today led by his grandson Jean-Marc, the domaine farms around nine hectares spread across seven villages, with vines averaging 40 years of age. Jean-Marc returned in 2008 to take over from his father, ushering in a new era defined by ecological viticulture, minimal intervention, and an obsessive attention to terroir. Each parcel is vinified separately using native yeasts, a mix of stainless steel and oak, and gentle gravity-flow processes in a new cellar designed for precision and purity. The result is a collection of Champagnes that speak distinctly of their limestone-rich soils, with Solessence—the estate’s flagship cuvée—standing as a crystalline expression of the house philosophy: harmony between nature, craft, and the essence of the land.

J-M Sélèque is part of the “grower Champagne” movement: small in scale, focused on expressing vineyard identity, and less reliant on big-house blending or heavy manipulation.

Bright and elegant, with notes of citrus, white peach, and pear layered over brioche, almond, and chalky minerality; Solessence shows fine bubbles, lively acidity, and a clean, saline finish that balances fruit richness with tension and precision.

Tasting Notes
A luminous straw-gold Champagne with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with white flowers, lemon zest, pear, and golden apple, evolving toward almond cream, brioche, and subtle spice from partial oak fermentation. On the palate, it is vibrant and layered, showing crisp citrus and stone fruit framed by chalky minerality and delicate salinity. The texture is silky yet taut, with perfectly judged acidity and a long, pure, and mouthwatering finish that reflects both finesse and terroir precision.
Food Pairing Suggestions
